Who Wants to Play? Beginning Research into Mobile Gaming

In this position paper we outline our motivation for conducting research into mobile gaming. We discuss how the development, deployment and evaluation of mobile games may provide new insights into the use of familiar technologies and contribute towards a more rapid understanding of new and unfamiliar technologies. We also advocate the use of mobile games, rather than “real-world” applications, as a vehicle for training users to use new technologies in a safe environment where they may be encouraged to experiment.
